East PTO's impact on the school community is significant. In the past three years, financial donations to the PTO's annual appeal have jumped from just over half of families participating to 78%. This generosity acknowledges community support for the breadth and depth of PTO programming. Feedback solicited via online survey in the winter of 2016 positively highlighted the PTO's ongoing programs - Get Smart About Art, Green Team, Math Olympics - as significantly supplementing classroom work. Field trips and in class presentations were also praised. PTO strives to ensure that all students, by the time they culminate at East school, have visited greater Boston's key educational attractions. Feedback from faculty and staff is also supportive and the PTO enjoys open communication with administrators and an opportunity to work closely with the teaching teams via room parents and at monthly all-school meetings. Family attendance at PTO sponsored events such as Back to School Bash, Scholastic Book Fair and Hobby Night has increased yearly. New programs and events such as the Girls V.I.P. Dance, Boys V.I.P. Bowling event and a revamped School Store & Field Day were also supported. In the years ahead, the PTO challenge will be to continue its fundraising levels, working to ensure a positive and welcome school culture, a timely revamp of after school enrichment programs and community events that stay fresh with the times.
