Get Smart About Creating (GSAC)
Get Smart About Creating (formally Get Smart About Art) is a reimagined program which encourages learning through imagination, problem-solving and hands-on creation. Through a series of in-class workshops, students are introduced to either an artist or a design / STEAM problem, then encouraged to create their own original artwork or 3-d solution to a STEAM challenge. Students typically explore the work of both artists and creators over the course of the program, gaining both artistic knowledge and hands-on inventive experience.
Grade-level coordinators organize each workshop, with parent volunteers serving as presenters and assisting with the art / STEAM project. Running from February through early April, the program culminates in a vibrant, school-wide Art Show celebrating students’ work in early May.
Get Smart About Creating is led by East School PTO volunteers in partnership with the classroom teachers, and is made possible through the generous support of East School families to the Annual Appeal.
